What made you want to intern with Coast 2 Coast?

-I have been following C2C's work for some time and admire the way they work so closely with the local communities, particularly with the youth. Having lived in a coastal city my whole life and having started surfing a few years ago I feel deeply aware of the health of the ocean and the different impact this has on various communities. It's been a long dream of mine to be able to do more research in this field and be part of projects working towards building more resilient communities to face the climate crisis.

What did you do each day at Coast 2 Coast?

-During the two months of the internship, I helped in the digitization of the focus groups and workshops carried out to develop the curriculum on the SSF Guidelines. I also interviewed collaborators and educators that participated in the workshops that took place in Oxapampa and Marañón.

What was your favorite part about the experience?

-Getting to know more about the experiences of students and educators from small fishing communities in different parts of the world. Also, working with passionate people that care deeply about the well-being of the communities they work with.

What recommendations do you have for future C2C interns?

-Learn and have fun : )

Such an inspiring journey, Andrea! Love how your passion for community and ocean health shines through. Reading this felt as heartwarming as seeing a golden retriever black happily playing by the shore, pure dedication and joy!
