"PELICANS vs. oil spill" | STOP-MOTION ANIMATION | Lobitos, PERU

What happens when three adventurous pelicans investigate a mysterious disaster along the Peruvian coast? This surprising animated short was created by local girls in Coast 2 Coast's Women & Water, a transformative program based in Lobitos, a small-scale fishing village in Northern Peru, where local girls build inner and outer strength through the creative arts, science projects, and surfing + swimming.

Through the eyes of these curious seabirds, the story uncovers the devastating impact of a real-life oil spill on marine ecosystems, coastal livelihoods, and community well-being. The animation was made possible through a participatory audiovisual workshop facilitated by "Espacio de Creacción para Mujeres / Cineastas," a grassroots media literacy initiative uplifting the voices of women and girls across Peru through storytelling and filmmaking.

This video is a testament to the creativity, environmental awareness, and resilience of a new generation of citizen scientists, communicators, and ocean athletes.
