"Martes Foto" is a weekly photography class lead by Henry Espinoza Panta, a local photographer and surfer, who was first mentored by the Lobitos Cinema Project and WAVES for Development to cultivate his talent for picture-taking and now, Henry is engaging other local youth in his community to see their daily lives from different angles, perspectives, and viewpoints.
The Shaka Surf Club groms took part in a creative session on night photography. The session was facilated by Haiku Chandna from Bombay. The kids were asked to stand in front of the camera and try to spell a word. The group decided on "Shaka". Using a flashlight, the participants wrote the word within ten seconds in front of the camera. After this initial activity, we asked the groms to come up with the next idea. The rest of the session the participants took turns clicking the photos as one stood in front of the camera and another grom traced their outline behind them with the flashlight. Afterwards we viewed the photos on a slideshow under the moon!
